Meet the Hydrium Grey Reef Shark

A quieter, more purposeful expression of the Hydrium, and the debut of something many Hydrium owners have been waiting for.

Some dive watches are inspired by the ocean; others try to capture its character.

The Isotope Hydrium Grey Reef Shark belongs firmly in the latter camp.

Limited to just 200 pieces, the Grey Reef Shark is the latest evolution of the Hydrium and introduces an entirely new dial treatment inspired by one of the reef's most assured inhabitants. But this release also brings something significant beyond the watch itself: the first dedicated stainless-steel bracelet designed for the Hydrium collection.

Inspired by the Grey Reef Shark

The grey reef shark has a presence that doesn't require theatrics. Sleek, purposeful, and unmistakably at home in its environment, it provided an ideal starting point for a Hydrium that takes a more restrained approach to design.

Rather than place a shark on the dial or rely on an obvious aquatic motif, we wanted to translate that character into the watch itself. The result is a cold grey dial with an intentionally restrained, almost brutalist quality. Color, texture, and function do the storytelling instead. It's monochromatic without feeling sterile and understated without disappearing on the wrist.

At the center is the unmistakable raised Isotope Lacrima, complemented by a raised chapter ring and our distinctive Isotope hands. Super-LumiNova delivers the visibility expected of a serious dive watch while keeping the dial deliberately clean.  The Grey Reef Shark may be subtle, but it is still unmistakably an Isotope.

The Hydrium DNA Remains

Underneath the new personality is the proven Hydrium platform.

The 40mm case is manufactured from 316L stainless steel and micro-blasted, giving it the subdued, technical finish that works particularly well with the Grey Reef Shark's monochromatic palette.

A double-domed sapphire crystal sits above the dial, while the unidirectional diving bezel and 300 meters of water resistance ensure that the Hydrium remains every bit the capable dive watch it was designed to be.

Inside is the Swiss-made Landeron 24 automatic movement, offering a 40-hour power reserve. But the Grey Reef Shark brings another significant change to the Hydrium line. And it's one we've been wanting to make for some time.

Finally, a Hydrium Bracelet!

For the first time, the Hydrium has its own dedicated stainless-steel bracelet. More importantly, we didn't want to create a bracelet exclusively for the Grey Reef Shark. We wanted to create one for Hydrium.

Constructed from solid bead-blasted stainless-steel links, the bracelet tapers from 22mm to 18mm and uses screw-fixed links, quick-release spring bars, and a diver's clasp with micro-adjustment.  The bead-blasted finish complements the Hydrium's case rather than competing with it, giving the watch a much more integrated, almost instrument-like character on the wrist.

Most importantly, however: It fits every Hydrium we've ever made.

From the earliest examples through to the Grey Reef Shark, the bracelet was developed to be backward-compatible with the entire Hydrium collection. Existing owners can therefore transform their watch's character without needing a new case, new end links, or a new generation of Hydrium.

Bracelet or Rubber? You Get Both.

We don't think a proper dive watch should make you choose.

Every Hydrium Grey Reef Shark therefore arrives with both the new stainless-steel bracelet and a quick-release grey FKM rubber strap. On steel, the Grey Reef Shark feels more substantial and architectural. The bead-blasted surfaces of the case and bracelet flow together into one continuous design.

Switch to the grey FKM rubber, and the watch immediately becomes lighter, more casual, and overtly aquatic. Two very different personalities, with the quick-release system making it easy to move between them.

A Different Kind of Shark

The Grey Reef Shark isn't intended to shout its inspiration from across the room. That's rather the point. Its connection to its namesake is expressed through restraint: the cold grey palette, textured surfaces, functional construction, and the sense that every component is there for a reason.

It's a Hydrium stripped back to its essentials. And with the introduction of the new bracelet, it's also perhaps the most complete expression of the Hydrium concept we've produced yet.
